Developed by internationally recognized dementia expert P.K. Beville, Ph.D., this innovative certification prepares healthcare professionals, hospice teams, senior living staff, social workers, chaplains, volunteers, and family caregivers to provide compassionate, evidence-informed support during one of life's most sacred and vulnerable transitions.

Unlike traditional end-of-life education, this certification focuses specifically on the unique physiological, cognitive, emotional, sensory, and communication changes experienced by individuals living with dementia as they approach the end of life.

Because dying with dementia is different.

As dementia progresses, individuals frequently lose the ability to communicate both receptively and expressively. Yet despite these changes, they often continue to experience emotion, human connection, comfort, music, touch, familiar voices, and compassionate presence. Unfortunately, many caregivers receive little formal education on how to engage individuals during this stage, resulting in interactions that become almost exclusively task-oriented and clinical.

The Dementia Death Doula® Certification bridges that gap by providing practical, evidence-informed strategies that preserve dignity, reduce distress, and create meaningful moments of connection until life's final breath.

Grounded in decades of dementia research, thousands of educational experiences, and real-world clinical observation, this certification teaches participants how to recognize opportunities for engagement that many believe are no longer possible.

Each participant receives the Empathic Transitions™ Kit, a carefully designed collection of tools developed to support meaningful engagement, sensory comfort, therapeutic presence, and family support throughout the dying process.

Participants also experience an immersive end-of-life simulation that provides a rare opportunity to better understand the physical and emotional challenges often experienced by individuals nearing death.
